Welcome, Willkommen,

The scientific focus of the Interactive Systems Laboratories (ISL) is on technologies that facilitate the human experience, human mutual understanding and communication. Examples of such technologies are translation, speech, language, vision technologies, multimodal and cross-modal perceptual interfaces, smart rooms or pervasive computing.

ISL carries out research projects in Computer Science organized with a cross-institutional and cross-national emphasis to achieve strong research results, but also to ensure cross-fertilization and internationalization of faculty, students and staff. ISL coordinates many research projects with international partners in Europe, the US and Asia.

The joint center has three locations: Carnegie Mellon University, USA, Universität Karlsruhe (TH), Germany and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, China. These locations provide ISL with an international presence in the speech and multimodal communities.
